Rafa Nadal Speaks Out on French Open Availability: Tennis legend Rafa Nadal dropped a bomb on his availability for the upcoming French Open. The 14-time champion of the tournament said that he would only compete for the Roland Garros title if his body let him.
Nadal had been out of the playing courts for a long time. The 22-time Grand Slam winner couldn’t take part in most of the competitions last year. His return from the injury didn’t play out well for him, as the star got knocked out by Alex de Minaur in the second round of the Barcelona Open.

Nadal talked about the probability of him competing in the French Open in Spain, where he is about to play in the Madrid Open, the tournament he mentioned as special and would like to ‘play for the last time’-hinting his retirement real soon.
“If I was in Paris today, I wouldn’t go out to play,” Nadal told reporters at the Madrid Open in reference to the Roland Garros grand slam. “I don’t think I’ll be able to play at 100 percent, but it’s important to be able to play for the last time in Madrid, it means a lot to me to play on this court where I’ve had some great moments.”
Nadal refused to give a final verdict on his availability for the prestigious tournament. Instead, he left it to his health and fitness.
“This doesn’t mean I’m giving up on anything in the next few weeks, I don’t know what might happen… “I’m going to do the things I have to do to be able to play in Paris. And if I can, I can, and if I can’t, I can’t. I’m going to Paris if I feel like I’m good enough … if I feel capable enough to compete…
He also mentioned that playing in the French Open wouldn’t be his only goal, mentioning other major tournaments, including the 2024 Olympics.
“The world does not end with Roland-Garros, although it has been the most important tournament of my career. If I don’t play Paris, there are other tournaments there; there is an Olympics soon and other events. I am not going to do more than I feel capable of doing or have the desire to do.”
