R Ashwin Comments On CSK Captaincy Change: Rajasthan Royals and Indian national team bowler Ravichandran Ashwin comments on Ruturaj Gaikwad replacing MS Dhoni as the captain of Chennai Super Kings, calling the change, “Inevitable.”
The announcement of Gaikwad becoming CSK captain broke the internet on Thursday. MS Dhoni has been the franchise captain since its inception in 2008. He has taken the team to 10 finals and has won five titles.
But since retiring from international cricket, rumors and speculation about a full retirement have surrounded him. He has been captaining the Super Kings for the last four years as the team looks for their future leader. It seems that they have found one in Ruturaj.
R Ashwin Comments On CSK Captaincy Change
Ashwin has a long history with Dhoni. Not only did he play a lot of cricket under him in the national side, he also started his IPL career playing in CSK. Currently plying his trade for the Royals in IPL, the spin-maestro had this to say about the change –

“This was an inevitable decision. It had to come. I know MS Dhoni and the way he functions. For him, the team comes first. He gave up captaincy to bring in Jadeja as a leader in 2022. Now, he has given it to Ruturaj. This decision had to happen.”
The 37-year-old then speculated that MS Dhoni would have informed Ruturaj Gaikwad last season that the captaincy was about to fall in his hand,
“Dhoni would have informed Ruturaj about the possibility last year. ‘Brother, you are going to lead CSK. I will be there to help you, and don’t worry about something Dhoni might have said to Gaikwad in advance,” said Ashwin.
Chennai Super Kings, under Ruturaj Gaikwad’s captaincy, will start their title defense as they take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in match 1 of IPL 2024 on March 22 in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
