The tournament will be focused on T20 cricket, adding excitement to the upcoming matches. With the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup preparations underway, Pakistan has opted for a youthful second-string team, including notable names like Asif Ali, Mohammad Hasnain, Shahnawaz Dahani, and Usman Qadir.
Qasim Akram to lead Pakistan Squad in Asian Games: Akram, who is set to lead the team, along with vice-captain Omair Bin Yousuf, hasn’t yet made his international debut. The squad is a blend of players with varying levels of international experience. Among the 15 selected players, only eight have represented Pakistan at the international level. Most of these players have honed their skills with the Pakistan Shaheens, recently participating in matches against Zimbabwe and emerging victorious in the ACC Emerging Cup in Sri Lanka.

Cricket at the Asian Games has been a highlight in the past, having been featured twice before, at Guangzhou 2010 and Incheon 2014. Bangladesh secured victory in the inaugural edition, while Sri Lanka claimed the top spot in the subsequent tournament. Afghanistan secured the runner-up position on both occasions. Pakistan’s last appearance in the competition was in 2010, where they secured a bronze medal.
In addition to the men’s team, Pakistan will also field a women’s cricket team at the Games. Led by Nida Dar, this squad was unveiled earlier in July. The women’s cricket matches are scheduled to take place before the commencement of the men’s tournament.

Qasim Akram to lead Pakistan Squad in Asian Games: Pakistan’s senior team escaped a historical loss, with a last over narrow margin win over Afghanistan. Chasing Afghanistan’s score of 300, Pakistan were nearly beaten to death but survived to have a classic win. Once Barar Azam who was the backbone of the Pak innings, built the innings to have a strong start, the middle order of Pakistan was shattered by Afghanistan’s lethal spin attack. But the tail somehow did the job, dragging the match to the penultimate ball to win the match with a sixer. In the match, Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s historic century (151) also went in vain.
