PV Sindhu cruised to the semifinals in Madrid Spain Master on Friday, keeping her chances of winning the first title of the year alive. However, Kidambi Srikanth, another Indian shuttler, has been eliminated from the men’s singles event.

Sindhu, the double Olympic medalist, defeated Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark, who is ranked 19th in the world, with a score of 21-14, 21-17. This victory has enabled her to reach the semi-finals of 2023 for the first time.
On the other hand, Srikanth was defeated in the quarter-finals by Kenta Nishimoto, the top-seeded Japanese shuttler, with a score of 18-21, 15-21.
Sindhu, who holds the second seed, has been facing difficulties in regaining her form after a prolonged injury break. The 27-year-old’s world ranking has dropped out of the top 10, and she has been unable to progress beyond the second round in recent 2023 tournaments until now.
The former world champion had a slow start to the match, but they completely dominated the second half, winning the first game with ease. Although Sindhu was behind for most of the second game, she made an impressive comeback, fighting from 6-12 to secure a straight game victory.

The former world number one and fifth seed, Srikanth, displayed moments of brilliance, but his inconsistency, which has been a recurring issue throughout the season, ultimately led to his defeat. It was Srikanth’s third loss to the Japanese shuttler.
