Prithvi Shaw Recovering From Knee Injury: Indian Premier League (IPL) side Delhi Capitals are facing a unique problem with two of their players. Since getting into a car accident in December 2022, team captain and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has been on a constant journey of recovery. He is expected to play his first matches in over a year in IPL 2024.
Another DV player will now face a similar problem. Team opener Prithvi Shaw has been out with an injury since August 2023. He suffered a knee injury while fielding for Northamptonshire in the English County Champion against Durham.
Having been out of action for over five months at this point, Shaw has been rehabbing at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for months now. He missed the whole of the Syed Mushtaq trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy for Mumbai. It is now being reported by CricketNext that the right-handed opener will miss the entire Ranji Trophy season as well.

Prithvi Shaw Recovering From Knee Injury: Will Play IPL Directly
The report also mentioned that the 24-year-old will play his first competitive match after recovering directly in IPL 2024, which is projected to start on March 23.
“Prithvi Shaw has been at the NCA for several months, undergoing rehabilitation and adhering to all required recovery procedures. While he is batting normally during practice sessions, he is still some way off from receiving clearance to return to competitive cricket. Currently, it appears highly unlikely that he will participate in the Ranji Trophy,” told a source familiar with Shaw.
Despite missing important players like Prithvi Shaw and Shardul Thakur, who is also out with an injury and rehabbing at the NCA, Mumbai is performing well in the Ranji Trophy, placed first in the Elite B group with 20 points in four matches.
“Prithvi Shaw has spent several months at the NCA. Similar to Shardul Thakur, we will await the Return to Play (RTP) confirmation from the NCA before determining our next steps. Currently, he has not been granted clearance by the NCA to resume competitive cricket, and therefore, he remains ineligible for selection,” said Mumbai selection committee chairman Rajeev Kulkarni.
With Prithvi Shaw recovering from a knee injury, he will be eyeing a return to form, as 2023 was not the best year for him, inside and outside the field.
Prithvi Shaw had a disappointing 2023 season in the IPL scoring just 106 runs in eight matches. He will be looking to storm back into form if he has any intentions to make his way into the Indian national side for the upcoming T20 World Cup in June 2024.
