Player Battles in India vs England Semi-final: In a repeat of the semi-final at the 2022 T20 World Cup in Adelaide, India and England will meet again in the semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in Guyana on June 27. Two years ago at the Adelaide Oval, Jos Buttler and Alex Hales consigned India to a 10-wicket thumping.
However, the current Indian team looks much stronger than its beleaguered version two years ago. India have won all their completed matches so far in this tournament, and their last win over Australia has certainly ascended them to the favorites’ tag heading into the knockouts.
On the other hand, the defending champions have suffered losses to Australia and South Africa, but have managed to sneak into the semi-finals. Both teams boast of a number of match-winners and their battles would be exciting.

3 Key Player Battles in India vs England Semi-Final:
Jofra Archer vs Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma
Archer is England’s joint-leading wicket-taker right now with nine scalps and an impressive economy of 7.02. It’s like his long-standing elbow injury didn’t take any sting out of his bowling.
He will be up against India openers Kohli and Sharma, both of whom have had contrasting form in the tournament so far. While Rohit has scored 191 runs with two fifties, including a blistering 92 against Australia, Kohli has managed just 66 runs so far. But Kohli does have prolific numbers against England in T20Is: 639 runs at an average of 39 with five half-centuries.
The winner of this battle between Archer and the India openers could set the tone for the rest of the contest.
Suryakumar Yadav vs Adil Rashid
The game-changing moment during that semi-final two years ago in Adelaide was when Adil Rashid dismissed Suryakumar Yadav, as the batter tried to go over extra-cover but sliced to deep point. Yadav was in prime T20 form them, and he is in good touch in this tournament as well, having hit two match-winning fifties. Rashid has snapped nine wickets and maintained an economy of 6.7.
Once again an India vs England semi-final could hinge on this contest between England’s best bowler and India’s best T20 batter.
Jasprit Bumrah vs Jos Buttler
A bowler vs batsman battle doesn’t come bigger than this. Bumrah vs Buttler would be a significant contest within this semi-final. Bumrah is at the peak of his powers—he’s taken 11 wickets and has bowled at an economy of only 4.08—while Buttler has just stormed back to form by hammering 83* runs off only 38 balls, albeit against the USA, who lost all three of their Super 8 games.
Still, Buttler is one of the best T20 batters of all-time. It would be interesting to see whether he tries to attack Bumrah or plays him out cautiously.
