Pep Guardiola Hints at Leaving Manchester City: Legendary Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has hinted at leaving his current club next season after winning his sixth Premier League title last night.
Man City went into the last matchday of the 2023–24 Premier League season with a one-point lead over Arsenal in the league table. The Sky Blues just needed to win their match at home against West Ham to finish on 91 points and lift their fourth title in a row.
Arsenal, who were ahead in the title race for much of the season, could only finish on 89 points even after a win and thus hoped that City would at the very least draw their match. But that did not happen, as Manchester City comfortably defeated West Ham 3-1, pipping the Gunners in the final days of the league for a second season running.
As mentioned above, this was Pep’s sixth PL title as Manchester City manager, winning as many leagues in just eight seasons. He has also won multiple FA Cups, the Community Shield, the Club World Cup, and the UEFA Champions League with the English side.
Having won it all in the last eight seasons, the Spanish manager has now hinted at leaving his current club for new ventures at the end of next season.
Pep Guardiola Hints At Leaving Manchester City
Talking to Sky Sports following his sixth PL triumph, Pep opened up about how he has discussed his future at the club with the owners, saying:
“The reality is, I’m closer to leaving than to staying. It’s eight years; it will be nine. Right now, my feeling is I want to stay next season. We talked with the club; we have time to talk next season because I have to see the players as well; if they follow me, they follow us.”
Guardiola then hinted that he might want to leave at the end of next season.
“I want to stay next season. During the season, we will talk. But after eight, nine years,” he said.
While Manchester City was not able to repeat their treble-winning performance from last season on account of being eliminated from the UEFA Champions League in the quarter-finals, the team is en route to a domestic double as they are in the final of the FA Cup against city rivals Manchester United on May 25.
