Ashraf replaced Najam Sethi as head of the Members Committee of the PCB in July 2023. In November of last year, his tenure was extended for three months, within which he was to conduct elections for a new chairman of PCB. However, Zaka failed to do so and instead announced his retirement in what looks like a forced resignation more than anything else

After he first took over from Sethi in July, Pakistan failed to make it to the final of the 2023 Asia Cup and then failed to make it to the playoffs of the 2023 Cricket World Cup, losing convincingly to India in both tournaments.
After he received a three-month extension as the chairman, Pakistan lost a three-match Test series against Australia 3-0. In 2024, Pakistan has lost four out of four T20Is against New Zealand so far in a five-match series.
While there is no news currently on who might replace Ashraf as the chairman of the PCB. The board might end up conducting the elections they were supposed to.
