Australian Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins claimed that he is currently focused on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between Australia and India, a series that is still months away.
The four-match Test series between the two cricketing giants called the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, will commence on November 22, 2024, the first day of the first match. The last game of the series will be a ‘Boxing Day match’ and will start the day after Christmas, on December 26. This will be some of the last international cricket played in 2024.
So the question arises: why is Pat Cummins focusing on a series that is still four months away? Well, the answer is that the left-arm pacer will be taking a break from cricket in order to prepare for the series.

The last four editions of the India-Australia Test series have been won by India, which includes the last time the two teams battled it out in a two-match series in February or March of 2023.
The last time the two nations collided in a Test series in Australia, India prevailed in the historic 2020/21 series, breaching the fort that was Gabba in the final Test to win the series 2-1.
The 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be Australia’s biggest challenge in the ongoing 2023–25 World Test Championship cycle, with the winner of the series most likely making it to the final.
Pat Cummins On Preparing For Test Series Vs India
Pat Cumming, who is currently playing for the San Francisco Unicorns in the USA’s Major League Cricket, recently gave an interview to ESPNCricinfo, where he explained how he would go on a 6- to 8-week sabbatical before starting his rigorous training for India vs Australia series.
“That window has always been earmarked as a time to really give my body a rest and do close to a full pre-season. I should get six or eight weeks off bowling and then build up again. Once this MLC opportunity came up and we mapped out the plan, it didn’t really change much. I’ll get home, and I’ll have a good six or eight weeks off bowling, where I’ll get in the gym every day, do some running, and get some strength back into my body. And then we’ve got a big Test match series [against India] for our home summer, so that’ll be the focus,” he said.
Pat Cummins has been quite busy in the past few months. He went from captaining Sunrisers Hyderabad to the final of IPL 2024 to directly travelling to the West Indies for the 2024 T20 World Cup for Australia.
Australia will play T20I and ODI series against Scotland, England, and Pakistan before the India tour, matches that Cummins will be missing.
