The second lot of the IPL 2024 Auction, themed ‘Capped All-Rounders’, was a highly anticipated world due to how highly all-rounders are worth in the economy of T20 cricket.
While Pat Cummins unequivocally was the star of the show here, several big-name players went for big money from this lot.
Let’s start with the Sunrisers, who apart from Cummins, also secured the services of Wanindu Hasaranga for a meager ₹1.5 Crore. This also means that Pat Cummins will play alongside his Australian national side teammate Travis Head, who was bought for ₹6.8 Crore in the first lot.
Chennai Super Kings too went big in this lot, buying Rachin Ravindra for ₹1.8 Crore, Shardul Thakul for ₹4 Crore, and World Cup semi-final star Daryl Mitchell for a solid ₹14 Crore.
Mumbai Indias bought the services of South African Gerald Coetzee for ₹5 Crore, while Gujarat Titans brought in Afghan all-rounder Azmatulah Omarzai for ₹50 Lakhs.
Punjab Kings too spent big in this lot, buying Harshall Patel for ₹11.75 Crores, and English bowling all-rounder Chris Woakes for ₹4.2 Crore.
