India all-rounder Nitish Reddy brought his IPL game to Test cricket as he took on Scott Boland during India’s first innings in the Adelaide Test.
The IND vs AUS Adelaide Test, which is a day-night contest, kicked off on Friday with India electing to bat first after captain Rohit Sharma won the toss.
But like in Perth, the visitors found themselves struggling against the Australian pacers and were bowled out for 180 runs, 30 more runs than what they managed in their first innings in Perth. Mitchell Starc produced a sensational bowling performance to claim his career-best Test innings bowling figures of 6/48.
For India, Nitish Kumar Reddy top-scored, as he did in that Perth innings, with 42 runs off 54 balls, hitting three fours and three sixes in his entertaining knock. The right-hander took on the likes of Starc and Boland during his stellar innings.
During the 42nd over of India’s innings, Reddy played an astonishing reverse-scoop shot to Boland. Knowing Boland’s metronomic ability to keep pitching the ball on the good length at the off-stump, Reddy got horizontal, almost parallel to the stumps, and scooped the ball over the slips. So good was the connection from Reddy that the ball went flying over the boundary rope for a sixer.

Reddy’s first boundary was off Pat Cummins, an off-drive that went past mid-off. He then took on Boland, walloping the seamer for two sixes and two fours. Reddy even slammed Starc for a jaw-dropping six down over deep extra cover.
Australia ended the day 1 in Adelaide on top of India. In reply to India’s first innings total of 180, Australia are 86/1 at stumps on day 1. They lost Usman Khawaja for 13, but then Marnus Labuschagne (20*) and Nathan McSweeney (38*) took Australia unscathed further to stumps.
