Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams has been in terrific form in Euro 2024 and his magic in the left wing has been causing problems for the opposition. The player who already is under the radar of Premier League clubs is also on the wanted list of Spanish giants FC Barcelona.
Barca president Joan Laporta dropped a big hint regarding the Catalans’ plan to snatch the player this summer. Laporta was discussing Barcelona’s ability to sign big players.
“It is Nico’s responsibility. We are working on the operations that [Hansi] Flick asks of us. Today, we can afford to sign Nico Williams. We can deal with a signing like Nico’s.”

Barcelona have been struggling to find money to become a major player in the transfer market for a long time. This was one of the reasons why Lionel Messi had to depart, even though La Pulga didn’t want to leave Camp Nou.

Nico Williams to Barcelona? What Does He Think?
Williams had admitted last month that he wants to continue at Bilbao.

It’s not just Laporta who talked about landing Williams at Camp Nou. Barcelona players Lamine Yamal and Pedri had shown their interest in playing with Williams at the club level, though they were all already his colleagues on the Spain national team.
“We don’t talk about it much. It’s a decision that he and Barca have to make, Yes, it’s clear that he would be a spectacular signing. We’re already seeing what he’s doing at the Euros. Hopefully, he can be with us, but we don’t know yet because he has a contract with Athletic. Whatever has to happen, will happen.”
