New Zealand Releases New Jersey Ahead Of WC: New Zealand Cricket (NZC) released new jerseys for their national team ahead of the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup and they are a throwback to the past.
The 2024 ICC T20 World Cup will commence on June 2 in the West Indies and the United States. The first match will be played between Canada and co-host the US.
New Zealand is in the competitive Group C in the tournament along with the West Indies, Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea, and Uganda. Only two of these teams will make it to the next round.
New Zealand Releases New Jersey Ahead Of WC
The new NZ jerseys have aqua blue as their primary colour with a horizontal white stripe in between which reads the team’s name. This is a departure from a lot of regular New Zealand practices.
First of all, there is no black in the design apart from the team name. The design also moved away from the fern graphic, which is usually prominent in NZ jerseys.
NZC took to Twitter to post some members of the squad for the World Cup in the new kit, take a look.
This design and colour scheme is an homage to New Zealand’s kit in the 1999 World Cup. In a tournament with a lot of classic jerseys, New Zealand’s stood out because of its unconventional colours.
But some people have also criticized the change, as the colour black has been removed from the ‘BlackCaps’ jersey.
The online space, like most things, is divided in its opinion on the new kit. While some see its resemblance to a classic jersey and praise it, others do not feel so good about removing the colour black from it, going so far as to call it a disgrace.
New Zealand will kick off their 2024 T20 WC campaign against Afghanistan on June 7. They will then face the West Indies on June 12. Their final two group matches will be against Uganda on June 14 and Papua New Guinea on June 17.
