New Rules in IPL 2023, Teams will no longer be permitted to reveal their starting lineup before the toss in the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. To include “Impact Players,” a new rule is being introduced. Following the toss, each captain will choose 11 players and up to five substitute fielders before handing the list to the IPL match referee.
Impact Player Rule – New Rules In IPL 2023
Before making this “Impact Player” rule official for the 2023 IPL season, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had already experimented with it in domestic competitions. Teams will also be able to contest wide and no-ball decisions issued by umpires using the Decision Review System (DRS), similar to the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
Umpires will now clench their fists and cross their palms over their heads to signify the arrival of an impact player. Two team sheets—one for batting first and the other for bowling first—will be carried by each captain before the toss. The captain must check the appropriate box on their team sheet, and the captains will trade team sheets based on the results of the toss. The South Africa T20 League competition served as an initial test for this rule.
To enable teams to utilize their Impact Player efficiently during the 2018 IPL season, the BCCI has made several amendments to the rules. One of the modifications is that teams now have the option to deploy the Impact Player as well as concussion replacements and fielding substitutes if necessary thanks to the expansion of the playing squad to 16 on match days.
With this new rules in IPL 2023, Teams will be able to review wides and no-balls in addition to the present Player Review system, which is another regulation change. In every inning, there will be two unsuccessful reviews for each team.
In New Rules in IPL 2023, Teams will be penalized if they do not complete their overs within the time limit. If the fielding team takes too long to complete the overs, they will be limited to four fielders outside the 30-yard line instead of the usual five. This rule was also in effect during the T20 World Cup last year.
