The 15-man squad has been announced, with a few notable omissions. Wicketkeeper and senior player Scott Edwards will captain the team in the tournament.
Max O’Dowd and Vikram Singh have been the team’s openers for some time now. They will take on these duties in the upcoming World Cup. 20-year-old opener Michael Levitt also finds himself as part of the squad.
As for other top-middle-order batters on the side, 40-year-old Wesley Barresi will be the team’s backup wicketkeeper, while Sybrand Engelbrecht and Teja Nidamanaru will provide experience in the middle order.
Bas de Leede and Logan van Beek have established themselves as world-class seam all-rounders in recent times. These two will add depth to the team’s batting and bowling orders as genuine all-rounders.
In a team full of orthodox spin all-rounders, Tim Pringle shines as a former New Zealand U-19 player and son of former NZ international Chris Pringle.
Aryan Dutt and Daniel Doram are the team’s two spin specialists, meanwhile, the ace trio of Fre Klassen, Paul van Meekeren, and Vivian Kingma will be part of the squad as usual.
Medium-pacer Kyle Klein will travel with the team as a reserve player.
The biggest omissions from this squad are all-rounders Colin Ackermann and Roelof van der Merwe, who will be prioritizing their county cricket teams over the Netherlands. Van der Merwe is currently part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru squad in IPL 2024.
In regards to the squad, head coach Ryan Cook had this to say:
“We have been able to select a well-balanced team that we are confident will be able to perform in the conditions against the opposition we face in the US and West Indies. All the players have been training well and have been involved in the recent ProSeries with some exciting performances showing the growing depth and quality in Netherlands cricket. We have managed to perform admirably in the last two World Cups we have participated in and will be determined to rise to the challenges we face ahead to reach the next round of the tournament.”
The Netherlands is in Group D of the 2024 T20 World Cup. They will kick off their tournament against Nepal on June 4. Their next match will be against heavyweights South Africa on May 8, before ending their group stage by facing Bangladesh on June 13 and Sri Lanka on June 16
