Neil Wagner Retires From International Cricket: New Zealand pacer Neil Wagner has announced retirement from international cricket after a stellar 12-year-long career.
Wagner who made his Test debut in 2012, has played 64 Tests for the Kiwis in his international career. He was not part of the XI for New Zealand’s first Test against Australia in Wellington. After not being picked for the match, he announced his retirement during an emotional press conference.
“It’s not easy to step away from something you’ve given so much to and got so much out of, but it’s now time for others to step up and take this team forward,” said Wagner while making his retirement announcement.

Neil Wagner Retires From International Cricket: A Rare Talent
Neil Wagner is known for his consistency and his ability to bowl lone and grueling spells. This breed of fast bowlers is becoming rarer by the day in Test cricket.
Neil Wagner Test Wickets And Stats: The 37-year-old has taken 260 Test wickets for the Black Caps, which puts him fifth in his country’s all-time charts. As for bowlers with 100 or more Test wickets for New Zealand, he has a strike rate of 52.7, only behind legendary Sir Richard Hadlee.
Discussing his time as a New Zealand international, Neil had this to say –
“I’ve enjoyed every single moment of playing Test cricket for the Black Caps and am proud of everything we’ve been able to achieve as a team. The friendships and bonds built over my career are what I’ll cherish the most and I want to thank everyone who’s played a part in where I am today. My teammates have always meant the world to me and all I’ve ever wanted to do was what was best for the team – I hope that’s the legacy I will leave.”
