Despite his exceptional performance, Chopra was unable to surpass his personal best of 89.94m achieved last year. Following his impressive opening throw of 88.67m, which secured him the top spot, his subsequent valid throws were 86.04m, 85.47m, no mark, 84.37m, and his final throw was 86.52m. The Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch secured a close second position with his best throw of 88.63m, while Grenada’s world champion Anderson Peters finished third with an 85.88m throw. Vadlejch made a valiant effort to catch up with the Indian thrower but fell short. His series of throws included 85.51m, 88.63m, 86.64m, no mark, 88.47m, and 84.76m.
Peter’s best throw of the day was 85.88m, but unfortunately, he struggled after his opening throw and was unable to cross the 85m mark in his remaining throws. His subsequent throws were 83.68m, 83.69m, no throw, 82.22m, and 81.93m.
Despite being the 2022 Commonwealth Games champion in men’s triple jump, Eldhose Paul failed to make a good impression on his Diamond League debut. Although he was aiming for a strong performance, he was unable to clear 16m. His best jump was 15.84m, which fell short of his personal best of 16.99m.
During a domestic meet, Paul recorded his season-best jump of 16.61m. Although he was previously on the injury list, he has since fully recovered.
