NED vs SA Match Highlights And Report-T20 WC: Another match in New York, another low-scoring game. The pitch seemed slightly better than the previous matches, but there was plenty for the pacers: 13 of the 15 wickets to fall went to seamers and two were run outs.
For the second game in a row, South Africa were made to sweat in a modest run-chase. This time, though, it was a much bigger scare that they received from the Netherlands than what they got from Sri Lanka.
The ghosts of South Africa’s losses to Netherlands in the last two ICC tournaments would have also resurrected during their precarious run-chase until Miller got them over the line with his 59* (51).

Aiden Markram won the toss and elected to bowl first. South Africa had a great start as Marco Jansen dismissed opener Michael Levitt and number 3 Vikramjit Singh in his first two overs, while Ottneil Baartman got rid of Max O’Dowd. The Dutch were 17/3 and managed only 20 runs in the powerplay.
They slid further as Anrich Nortje bounced out Bas de Leede and Nidamanuru, while the Netherlands captain Scott Edwards got run out. The Dutch were 48/6 after 12 overs. They were lifted via a partnership of 54 (45) between Sybrand Engelbrecht and Logan van Beek. Engelbrecht scored 40 runs off 45 balls and van Beek scored 23 runs off 22 balls.
After just crossing the 100-run mark, Netherlands lost three quick wickets and ended with 103 on the board.
A target of 104 was made to look much bigger than it was, as South Africa had a horrific start. Quinton de Kock got into a mix-up with Reeza Hendricks and the left-hander got run out on the first ball. The second over brought the wickets of Hendricks, bowled by van Beek, and Markram fell in the third to Vivian Kingma.
The scare of another loss to the Netherlands felt bigger when Klaasen pulled Kingma to deep square leg in the 5th over, leaving South Africa reeling at 12/4. They ended their powerplay at 16/4.
Then, Miller and Tristan Stubbs joined hands to steady the ship for the Proteas. The duo didn’t take much risks and bedded their time in with survival the first priority.
After 10 overs, South Africa were 32/4 with both batters going slowly. 22 runs came off the next two overs as the Proteas took a sigh of relief. Miller and Stubbs started hitting fours and sixes and South Africa started to inch closer.
However, the Netherlands came back one more time with de Leede nipping out Stubbs for 33 (37) and van Beek dismissing Jansen. With 16 runs more needed, Miller whacked a six, followed by a couple, a four, and a six to seal the game.
Score summary: Netherlands 103/9 in 20 overs (Sybrand Engelbrecht 40, Ottneil Baartman 4/11); South Africa 10/6 in 18.5 overs (David Miller 59*, Vivian Kingma 2/12). South Africa defeated Netherlands by 4 wickets.
