The Group B encounter took place at Barbados’ Kensington Oval, with Namibia winning the toss and deciding to bowl first. This decision immediately paid off as pacer Ruben Trumpelmann scalped two wickets in the first two balls of the inning.
The pitch, coupled with the conditions, allowed for a lot of movement early in the innings. Trumpelmann took his third wicket in the third over, reducing Oman to 20/3.
The Asian nation wasn’t able to build any long partnerships but tried to push ahead regardless. Their biggest partnership was for the fifth wicket between Khalid Kail and Ayan Khan, for 31 runs.
Oman ended their inning all out for just 109, which is way below par on any wicket.
While Namibia lost an early wicket too, they did not have too many problems with losing batters. However, Oman kept it tight throughout the inning, keeping the run rate down.

So, despite Niko Davin and Jan Frylinck scoring 24 and 45 runs respectively in a small run chase, they did so with a sub-100-strike rate.
With just five runs needed in the final over, Namibia lost two wickets and only managed to score four, and thus the match went to Super Over.
Despite it being a low-scoring contest, the match went into unpredictable territory as Namibia came in to bat first. The team’s two most experienced players, David Weise and captain Gerhard Erasmus, took to the field.
Despite Mehran Khan bowling a superb 20th over for Oman, it was Bilal Khan, who was one of only two bowlers with a 6+ economy for his team in the match, who came in to bowl for Oman. This choice makes more sense considering Bilal is the strike bowler for his side.
Despite that, he was smashed for 21 runs by the two veterans, with Wiese scoring 13-off-4 and Erasmus hitting two 4s in two deliveries.
Wiese also came in to bowl the Super Over for his team, dismissing wicket-keeper Naseem Khushi and conceding just 10 runs to win Namibia their first game of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
For his exploits in the Super Over and taking three wickets in the regular match, David Wiese was named the Player of the Match.
With this being the first game in Group B, Namibia has climbed to the top of the group, but with no addition to their net run rate. The likes of Australia and England are in this group too, making it likely they will jump ahead when their first matches come around.
