Mumbai Indians First Team Knocked Out Of IPL 2024: The Mumbai Indians have become the first team to be knocked out of the race to the playoffs in IPL 2024 following Sunrisers Hyderabad’s brutal defeat of the Lucknow Super Giants.
SRH took on LSG in Match 57 of the league in Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Winning the toss and deciding to bat first, the Super Giants got off to a poor start. The team’s score was 27/2 at the end of the powerplay, and captain KL Rahul scored 29 runs in just 33 balls before getting dismissed.
With Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni stabilizing the inning in the second half, LSG reached a total of 165 at the end of their 20 overs. In response, SEH chased the target down in just 9.4 overs without losing any wickets in what was one of the most humiliating defeats in IPL history.
Sunrisers openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma lit the house on fire. While Head scored 89 in 30 balls after reaching his 50 in just 16 balls, Sharma scored 75 in 28, both scoring with a strike rate of over 250.

While this result made a huge impact on Hyderabad and Lucknow’s bid for the playoffs, this contest also affected one more team as the five-time champions were eliminated from the IPL 2024 after SRH’s win.
With this win, the Sunrisers moved up to third in the league table with 14 points in 12 matches. Two teams are already on 18 points in just 11 matches: the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Rajasthan Royals.
But how did the result from last night knock out the Indians? Well, it comes down to a future match in the league.
LSG’s next match, which will be Match 64 in IPL 2024, will be played against the Delhi Capitals. Both of these two teams have 12 points in as many matches. Whichever team wins this match will move to 14 points. Even if the match is washed out, both teams will gain a point and move to 13.
On the other hand, MI is currently ninth on the table with just eight points in 12 matches. The most points they can get are 12. Now that it has been confirmed that at least four teams will go past the 12-point mark, the Mumbai-based franchise is naturally eliminated from the league.
Now, despite being last in the points table and below MI in the league, the Gujarat Titans are not eliminated yet. They too have eight points, but in 11 matches, so they can still reach 14 points if they win every game from now on. But with their net run rate, it will take a miracle from here for them to finish in the top four for a third season in a row.
While MI has been eliminated from the tournament, they will play their remaining league matches, the next one of which will be against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on May 11.
