Mumbai Indians Defeat UP Warriorz Match 14 WPL: It was Match 14 of the ongoing Women’s Premier League and defending champions Mumbai Indians absolutely thrashed UP Warriorz, defeating them by 42 runs and almost confirming a playoff spot for themselves.
Played in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, Harmanpreet Kaur led-MI won the toss and chose to bat first. It was not the best start for the Indians, as they lost both their openers at just 17. At this point, star all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt and captain Kaur stabilised the innings, Sciver-Brunt especially went on a tear during this partnership, scoring 45-off-31.
Solid innings by Amelia Kerr (39-off-23) and Sajeevan Sajana (22-off-14) took MI to a respectable total of 160 at the end of their 20. Sri Lankan Chamari Athapaththu led UP’s bowling, finishing her four-over spell with figures 2/27.

Then it came time for the Warriorz batting, and the innings started to fall apart right as it began. When the team lost captain Alyssa Healy in the fourth over, the score was 15/3. The team could not form any decent partnership, losing wickets consistently.
Deepti Sharma was standing at one end and watching her side crumble around her. On a personal level, Sharma had a solid match, scoring 53-off-36. But her half-century wasn’t nearly enough, as the UP Warriorz ended their innings at 118/9, losing the match by 42 runs.

Nat Sciver-Brunt was named the Player of the Match for her solid innings as well as her bowling figures of 2/14.
With this loss, UP Warriorz are left stranding at fourth in the table with just 4 points in 6 games. Their poor net run rate makes it incredibly difficult for them to make it to the playoffs for this spot.
On the other hand, MI have all but confirmed their place into the playoffs, with them being only the second team to reach the 8-point mark after league leaders Delhi Capitals.
