MS Dhoni to Retire From IPL As Per Report: MS Dhoni has done it all in cricket. ODI World Cup. T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy, Asia Cup—there is no such thing that MS Dhoni hasn’t won in international cricket since he decided to step down from his duties as the captain of Team India.
Though Dhoni had given the baton to Virat Kohli to lead the team in 2017, he continued for 3 more years to play for the country until he retired on August 15, 2020.
From then on, MS solely concentrated on Chennai Super Kings. He took them to the IPL trophy twice after that, for a total of five in his whole career. He also helped CSK win the Champions League T20 twice.
MS Dhoni’s retirement speculations have been all over the air since the beginning of the last season. The world had thought that the skipper would probably hang up his gloves after that season. As CSK reached the final and won the trophy in a thrilling last-ball entertainer, the world had almost anticipated the retirement speech from Dhoni. But the man from Ranchi took everyone by surprise and announced that he may not retire that soon.
Fans were happy that they could see Thala at least once more. And they can, but with a twist. The king of twists took an unexpected turn to surprise the cricket world once more by announcing that he would no longer lead CSK by transferring the baton to youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad.
The announcement came half an hour before the captain’s-meet, and according to the CSK CEO, he was just like any other fan, as he didn’t know it was coming.
MS Dhoni to Retire From IPL As Per Report
As MS stepped down from captaincy, now reports are saying that he will retire after this season. One of the major ones came from PTI.
“There is speculation that Dhoni will announce retirement after the season, and the franchise decided to have a smooth transfer of the captaincy in the presence of a five-time winner,” said PTI in a report.
It’s not the first time that MS Dhoni has given away his captaincy. The skipper had passed the captaincy to his co-player Ravindra Jadeja in 2022, but the Gujarat man failed miserably in that, and Dhoni had to step up again.
But CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that this time things are different.
“It didn’t work in 2022, but the decision to appoint Ruturaj is different,” Viswanathan told PTI.
What’s Next for MS Dhoni?
Though Dhoni has stepped down from the captaincy, he will be mentoring Gaikwad along the journey of this IPL, just like he did with Virat Kohli internationally. And if things go well in CSK, MS would most likely say goodbye to the pitch, but to CSK, as the legend may continue his association with the franchise in some way or another.
