MS Dhoni Interview: MS Dhoni Reveals the Secret of Finishing the Game
MS, who is famous for his final over heroics to win a lot of games, sheds some light on how a player should approach those balls. According to MS, every delivery counts, and it’s important to go for sixes over fours.
“When you go for batting, what you see is the scoreboard. What is needed from your end as a player, and what the team needs from you. So, if you are going for the final 4-5 deliveries, you have to try to play as many big shots as possible. And at that time your thought process should be set to aim for sixes. And, in fact, you hardly plan for a 4, you are looking for a 6. So, with God’s grace, I am able to get so many runs in the last few deliveries because in a high-scoring game, every run counts.”
MS Dhoni gets to life when the pressure reaches its peak in the game. Once hailed as ‘Captain Cool’ because of his ability to thrive under pressure, Mahi continued taking about the mentality one should have to bag high-scoring matches
“If you’re getting a six, that was a four. You know that two runs really matter. And I always said that whenever it’s a high-scoring game, every hit really counts. That’s what I keep telling the bowlers that you may get hit for four boundaries, but If you bowl the sixth delivery that is a dot ball, it may actually help us win the game.
“At that point of time, you may not be thinking, you may think, I just want to get over with this, know, one more boundary goes, how does it matter? No, it matters. Because you cannot change the 5 sixes that are already gone, but there is one delivery left. Imagine you bowl a dot delivery and you win by four runs. So that is something that the bowlers need to believe.”
“And I feel that’s what we want to tell each and every bowler, and the same applies to the batsman. It’s possible that 2-3 dot balls have happened, but a sixer in the next ball could win you the game. So have that belief, have that confidence that you’ll be able to achieve.”
Dhoni, 43, is currently playing under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad, and is showing no signs of retirement. The greatest crowd puller of IPL will face Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru in his second match of the season.
