MS Dhoni Gets Frustrated After the RR Loss: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni was left to rue the batting malfunction in the top and middle order as CSK lost their 10th match of IPL 2025, the joint-most they have lost in an IPL season.
They lost 10 games in IPL 2022 as well, when they finished 9th. This season, they are looking all but certain to finish in the 10th position: Rajasthan Royals (RR) have finished their tournament with 8 points, and while CSK, who have 6 points, have one game in hand, they have a poor NRR compared to RR.
On Tuesday, in Delhi, RR signed off their IPL 2025 campaign with a thumping six-wicket victory over Dhoni’s team. Chasing a target of 188, Vaibhav Suryavanshi blasted 57 runs off 33 balls before Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel cleaned up the rest of the chase.

Dhoni opined that in the RR vs CSK match, CSK had put decent runs on the board, though it seemed only par, as the pitch in Delhi has been an excellent batting wicket.
The CSK skipper lamented the wickets in clusters CSK lost while batting first: CSK were 12/2, then 78/5, and then 137/6. This meant that Shivam Dube (39 off 32) and Dhoni (16 off 17) couldn’t bat with the freedom required in the death overs, and eventually CSK finished with an under-par score.
MS Dhoni said, “If you look at the amount of runs we had put on the board, it was very good, but you got to see the wickets column as it puts pressure on the lower-middle order that you might not bat 20 overs. I think Brevis’ innings was very nice; he was taking chances, and I feel the run-rate was nice, that’s the phase we want to improve slightly. I felt the run rate was up, but where we lacked was losing 1-2 extra wickets.”
This was CSK’s fifth loss in five games while defending totals this season. This is a result of an outdated batting approach, no form for most of the batsmen, the loss of Ruturaj Gaikwad around halfway through the season, and the lack of teeth in the bowling attack.
CSK’s last league match will be against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on May 25. Will that be MS Dhoni’s last IPL game? We don’t know yet.
