Mohammed Shami Takes First Wicket Vs AUS: Indian Cricket Team pacer bowler Mohammed Shami has taken the first wicket for India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final against Australia, dismissing young batting-allrounder Connor Connolly for a duck.
India is taking on Australia in the first semi-final of CT 2025. The Men in Blue won all three of their games in Group A, defeating Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand, to make their way to the final four.
As for the Australian Cricket Team, they finished second in their group behind South Africa. They won their game against England, while the matches against South Africa and Afghanistan were washed out.
The semi-final is being played in the Dubai International Stadium, the ground on which India has played, and won, all their matches in this competition. Meanwhile, this will be Australia’s first match on a pitch that is much more bowler-friendly than those in Pakistan, where they have played all their games so far.
Today, in the India vs Australia match, the Kangaroos won the toss and decided to bat first. This is Rohit Sharma’s 14th consecutive loss as a captain during toss in ODI matches.

With Matthew Short suffering an injury in Australia’s previous game against Afghanistan, Cooper Connolly was brought in as his substitute as an opener. The 21-year-old has played only a couple of ODIs for the national team in the past, in which he has not done a lot.
More crucially, Connolly is not even an opener. In domestic limited-overs cricket, he comes in to bat in the middle-order, at number 4 or 5. He also bowls some left-arm finger spin.
So, it was surprising to see him open the batting for Australia. And the nine balls he played must have felt like 90 for him, seeing the youngster struggle to even touch the ball against India’s pace duo of Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya.
Then, in the third over of the match, Connor Connolly nicked the ball and was caught behind by KL Rahul. While the umpire did not give him out, DRS forced him to change his decision. Australia fell to 4/1 at the end of three overs.
