Indian Cricket Team bowler Mohammed Shami took his 200th wicket in ODI cricket during the India vs Bangladesh match in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He became the fastest bowler in world cricket to take 200 wickets in this format.
Mohammed Shami Fastest Bowler To 200 ODI Wickets: India is taking on Bangladesh in Match 2 of CT 2025 at the Dubai International Stadium in the UAE. While Pakistan is the primary host of this competition, with the Men in Blue not playing any matches there, this game is being played in Dubai.
The Bangla Tigers won the toss on a dry track and decided to bat first. This looked like a poor decision right at the start, when in the first over of the inning, Shami dismissed opener Soumya Sarkar for a duck.

Harshit Rana then dismissed captain Najmul Hossain Shanto in the second over. Shammi’s next wicket in the seventh over was Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who was caught in the first slip by Shubman Gill.
Bangladesh’s inning really went down a hole when, in the ninth over, Axar Patel took two wickets in two balls with the score falling to 35/5. He would have taken a hat trick if Rohit Sharma hadn’t dropped an absolute sitter of Jaker Ali on the hat trick ball.
Ali, having survived his first ball, then punished India by scoring a crucial 68 runs in 114 deliveries, building a 154-run partnership with Towhid Hridoy, who scored a century.

After a wicket in the ninth over, the next wicket came in the 43rd over when Ali, looking to slog Mohammed Shami, hit the ball straight up and was caught at long-on by Virat Kohli. This was the veteran pacer’s third wicket of the match, and more importantly, his 200th wicket in ODI cricket.
In only his 104th career ODI, Shami has picked up 200 wickets. In terms of matches played, the 24-year-old is joint second quickest to take 200 wickets in the format, along with Pakistan’s Saqlain Mushtaq, and behind Australia’s Mitchell Starc, who took as many wickets in 102 matches.
However, Shami did break a world record. He did become the fastest cricketer to take 200 ODI wickets if we look at the number of balls bowled. Starc broke the double-hundred mark of ODI scalps in 5240 deliveries, but Shami did so in 5126 deliveries, thus becoming the fastest.
In then cleaning out the tale, Mohammed Shami took two more wickets and completed his five-for, his sixth in the format
After faltering to 35/5, the Bangladesh Cricket Team pulled back well to score 228 on a challenging pitch. As for India, they will have to win this match if they are to progress to the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, seeing how New Zealand thrashed Pakistan in the opening match.
