Both – Shami and Krishna underwent surgery earlier this year. While Shami went under the knife to treat an injury in his right heel on February 26, Prasidh Krishna was operated upon his left proximal quadriceps tendon on February 23.
Mohammed Shami was last seen playing in the 2023 World Cup and was the tournament’s highest wicket-taker. He took 24 wickets in just 7 games at a mind-boggling average of 10.7. This included his excellent 7/57 figures against New Zealand in the semi-final.
Prasidh Krishna last donned the Indian jersey in the 2nd Test match against South Africa on January 3-6. His last cricket match was for Karnataka in the Rani Trophy against Gujarat in January.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah has said that Mohammed Shami is expected to return to action during India’s Test series against Bangladesh in September. This means not only will he miss the IPL, but will also miss the 2024 T20 World Cup in June-July, to be played in the West Indies and the United States.
