Pakistan Cricket Team captain Mohammad Rizwan commented on his side’s dismal campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup, saying that the team deserves the criticism they are facing.
Pakistan did not come into this World Cup as one of the favorites; instead, they were more of a dark horse pick. But the way they kicked off their tournament was humiliating beyond belief. In one of the biggest upsets in cricket history, Pakistan lost to the United States of America after the game went to a Super Over.
This was followed by a defeat against India. Chasing a total with a required rate of 6 runs per over, the Men in Green took the game to 48 runs needed in as many balls before losing the plot and losing the game by six runs.

The team may have won the next two games against Canada and Ireland, but more was needed for them to make it out of their group, with India and the US qualifying for the Super 8 from Group A.
Naturally, the Pakistan team is facing a lot of criticism. From bowlers not doing well against a side like the US to the top order stalling and not scoring runs against India, and the failure in leadership by the team’s senior-most players. A team that finished as the runner-up in the 2022 T20 World Cup failed to make it out of the first round.
Mohammad Rizwan On Pakistan T20 World Cup Debacle
Mohammad Rizwan, one of the senior players in the team and a prospect for the Pakistan captain job in the future, recently spoke to reporters in Peshawar. While making his response, the wicketkeeper said that the criticism the national team is facing is justified and that this side has to work on their shortcomings and get better.
“The criticism the team is facing is justified, and we deserve this since we didn’t perform in accordance with expectations. Players who can’t face criticism won’t be able to succeed. We are disappointed with our performance in the T20 World Cup. There are multiple reasons behind our losses. When a team loses, one can’t say that bowling and batting are doing well,” he said.
Despite not having the best World Cup, Mohammad Rizwan was Pakistan’s second-highest run scorer. He scored 110 runs in four games, with a run-a-ball 53 against Canada being his highest score.
