Mohammad Kaif On Virat Kohli Attitude: Former India batsman Mohammad Kaif is amazed at the change in attitude of Virat Kohli in the past few months. The commentator reckons it’s because the RCB and India mega-star realizes that he’s in the last phase of his career.
The guy who once used to be in the face of the opposition all the time on the field, be brash and sledging them, and give bold statements in the press conference, now has mended his differences with rivals like Naveen-ul-Haq and Gautam Gambhir; has been playfully teasing the opposition’s star players Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan; and interacts with the crowd: Kohli made a couple of cute gestures when the Wankhede crowd chanted “Kohli ko bowling do” during the RCB vs MI match.
He also had a funny laughter moment with MI coaches Mark Boucher and Kieron Pollard, even as RCB were getting slammed. This is a similar change that David Warner underwent over the last few years.
He knows this is his last phase in cricket: Mohammad Kaif On Virat Kohli Attitude
While doing commentary on Thursday night in Mumbai, Mohammad Kaif opined that since Kohli is in the last period of his career, the 35-year-old just wants to have as much fun with the players and crowd as possible.
“He is enjoying his time on the field because the veteran knows this is his last phase in cricket. He doesn’t have the responsibility of captaincy and can play freely for his franchise. Kohli has been different this season. He enjoys conversations with rival players and welcomes them to the crease with some sledging,”
Kaif said.
“Kohli hasn’t been like this in the past. Probably, he wants to be a part of fun before he calls it a day.”
This change in attitude, however, hasn’t taken any spice from his bat. Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer in IPL 2024 at the moment, with 319 runs in 6 outings scored at an average of 79 and strike rate of 141. He’s notched up one century and two half-centuries.
While Kohli dons the Orange Cap, RCB are on their way to the exit game with merely one victory in six games. Their latest defeat—MI chased down 197 with 27 balls to spare—was utterly demoralizing.
