Luka Modric Wishes Sunil Chhetri Before Final Game: Croatia and Real Madrid legend footballer Luka Modric sent a heartfelt message to the captain of the Indian football team and absolute legend Sunil Chhetri ahead of the latter’s final international game.
Chhetri, who is the highest goalscorer and appearance maker for the Indian national football team, announced his retirement from the national side last month, announcing that India’s World Cup qualifier against Kuwait on June 6 will be his last game.
Chhetri will retire from international football after making 151 appearances for India. Before his final game, he has scored 94 goals for the national side and is the fourth-highest goalscorer in international football, right behind the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Luka Modric, who won his sixth UEFA Champions League title with Real Madrid earlier this month, is also busy with international duty. Right before embarking on the 2024 EUFA Euros campaign, Modric and Croatia will take on Portugal on June 8.

Ahead of Chhetri’s final game in the India jersey, the former Ballon d’Or winner took to social media to send a heartfelt message.
“Hi Sunil, I just wanna say hello, and wish you all the best in your last game for national team. Congratulations on your career, you are a legend of this game,” said Luka.
The fans of the Indian football team reacted to Luka Modric’s video message to Sunil Chhetri, liking how one legend of the game acknowledged the other.
India is currently competing in the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. In Group A alongside Qatar, Afghanistan, and Kuwait, India is currently second in the group behind Qatar.
Winning their game against Kuwait, which will take place in Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium on June 6, 7 PM, will all but confirm India’s qualification to the third round of the qualifiers, a final gift from team India to their greatest-ever player Sunil Chhetri.
