Mo Salah and Jamie Carragher’s feud started when the former expressed his displeasure on the situation in which the club wasn’t initiating a contract renewal talk with the player. Salah’s contract expires in the 2025 summer. Carragher slammed the player calling him ‘selfish’ following opined that Salah should have respected the club and shouldn’t have spoken out.
The drama had ended there as Liverpool’s leading goalscorer of the 2024-25 season decided to not respond to that. But when Carragher aimed a dig at Salah after the player posted a picture with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold online, who are also running out of contract in the summer, it was too much for the 32-year-old to take it and he took to X to troll he jibing pundit.

“Oh I don’t know. I would say Virgil van Dijk has come out of this whole situation, as the captain of the club, in a higher esteem for me. The way he’s conducted himself, his performances on the pitch, the way he’s led the team. He hasn’t got involved in too much around this. Rather than speak about Trent Alexander-Arnold or Mo Salah, I’d probably like to pay tribute to Virgil van Dijk.
He’s come across as a real statesman the way he’s handled it. He’s been asked questions, he’s knocked it away. He’s here to win the league, he wants to do his utmost for Liverpool. Fingers crossed he signs. The other two could maybe look at Virgil van Dijk and take a leaf out of his book.”

While it’s still unsure where Salah will end up, Trent Alexander-Arnold has been linked with Real Madrid and a potential transfer in January is underway. Van Dijk on the other hand, hasn’t spoken about the contract situation yet. This is the reason why Carragher singled out the Dutch defender to praise him.
