Mitchell Starc Is the Costliest Player in IPL: The Australian national team are reaping rewards for their World Cup wins as two Aussies have broken the highest bid record in the IPL 2024 Auction.
First, it was the World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins who broke the record for the highest bid in IPL history when Sunrisers Hyderabad bought his services for Rs. 20.5 Crore.

Not an hour after the Cummins buy, a bidding war took place between several teams for pace-maestro Mitchell Starc. The bids comfortably crossed 10 Crores, then 15, then 20! It finally passed the 20 Crore mark, it was Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans. But it was KKR who prevailed in making the Aussie a part of their side for a whopping Rs. 24.75 Crore price tag.
This was the second time the record for the highest bid in IPL history was broken this year itself. As previously mentioned, Pat Cummins broke that record earlier in the day when he became the first player to break the Rs. 20 Crore mark in IPl history.
Before today’s auction, this record was held by English all-rounder Sam Curran, who was bought by the Punjab Kings for Rs.18.5 Crore in last year’s auction.
Also bought in that auction was Cameron Green by the Mumbai Indians for Rs. 17.5, which was then the second-highest bid in IPL history and is now the 4th highest.
Rounding out the top 5 most expensive IPL buys are South African all-rounder Chris Morris and English all-rounder Ben Stokes, who was bought by the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings for Rs. 16.25 Crore in Ipl 2021 and 2023 Auction separately.
