Mitchell Santner Missed 1st T20I Against Pakistan: New Zealand bowling-all-rounder Mitchell Santner was not part of the team in their 1st T20I against Pakistan on January 12th. Being a regular part of the team across all formats, why did he not play the match?

It is because he tested positive for Covid-19, and has thus been put in isolation in his hotel in Auckland. He will now travel to Hamilton, the location for the 2nd T20I in this five-match series, solo.
It is said that Santner will be available for the next match in Hamilton’s Seddon Park on January 14, Sunday.
In a recent statement released by New Zealand Cricket (NZC), the whole situation was outlined and cleared. The statement read –
“Mitch Santner won’t travel to Eden Park this evening for the opening KFC T20I against Pakistan after testing positive for COVID earlier today. He will continue to be monitored over the coming days and will travel solo home to Hamilton.”
In the first match of the series, it did not look like New Zealand were missing a crucial part of their squad. While batting first in Auckland’s Eden Park, the hosts put up a massive total of 226 in 20 overs, with Daryl Mitchell hitting a fantastic 61-off-27 balls and Kane Williamson getting a half-century.
The Kiwis then bowled Pakistan out for 180, with Tim Southee scalping 4 wickets and Daryl Mitchell being named Player of the Match
In the absence of Mitch Santner, Ish Sodhi remains the only specialist spinner in the squad. In the 1st T20I against Pakistan, Sodhi went for 33 runs in 3 overs and took Fakhar Zaman’s wicket with a caught and bowled.
Mitchell Santner is likely to be available for the rest of the series, which will now go to Hamilton for the 2nd match on January 14. The 3rd match will be played at Dunedin’s University Oval on January 17. The series will then move to the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on January 19, and will then conclude at the Hagley Oval on January 21.
