Mirabai Chanu Discusses Her Training For Olympics: Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu recently shed some light on her preparations ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. She opened up about what she keeps in mind while training and how she controls her diet.
The Paris Olympics will commence on July 26 and end on August 11. The biggest sporting extravaganza in the world will see over 11,000 athletes compete in over 300 disciplines in 32 games.
India will be sending over 11 athletes who will participate in 16 games. While India has not been anywhere near among the top nations at the Olympics, the country has a rich history of medal winners at the games. From several golds in men’s field hockey to showcases of individual brilliance in sports like shooting, wrestling, and boxing.
One of the athletes who wrote her name in the annals of Indian history at the Olympics is Mirabai Chanu. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Chanu won a silver in the women’s weightlifting 49-kg category.
Not only that, but Chanu is also a former World Champion, the defending Commonwealth Games Champion, and came in second in the most recent World Championships.
Mirabai Chanu is one of the few athletes from the Indian contingent who are not only expected to win a medal but also fight for gold in Paris.

In a recent interview, Mirabai opened up about her training and diet, how she takes care that she does not pick up an injury during training, and how she needs to keep an eye on her diet and exercise.
“I take care not to pick up an injury during my training. I am careful about my technique, strength (training), and diet. What I eat and recovery are important. What exercises I do and which muscles I focus on are also important,” she said.
Chanu also discussed how she is currently lifting about 80% of what she is capable of and will increase the weights gradually before the games.
“Now I am lifting 80 to 85 percent (of what I am capable of). There is a month left for the games; I will increase my load gradually.”
Mirabai Chanu will compete to become one of the very few Indians to have won multiple Olympic medals when she competes in the 49-kg category in women’s weightlifting at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
