Mikel Arteta On New Gabriel Jesus Replacement: Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hinted at a possible new signing for the club with striker Gabriel Jesus out with injury.
The Brazilian attacker was signed from Manchester City right before the 2022–23 season; he was a major piece of a resurgent Gunners side that finished second in the Premier League, scoring 11 goals. And while he was out of form for the entire 2023-24 Premier League season, he is still the No. 1 pure striker in the team.
Arteta’s men have gotten to a solid start to the 2024/25 PL season. In their opening game, they defeated Wolves 2-0 in the Emirates Stadium. Now, in their second game, they have defeated a fine Aston Villa side 2-0 at Villa Park. While the scoreline shows that this was somewhat of a one-sided game, it was actually a hard-fought victory for the North Londoners. On another day, this could have been a draw or even a loss.
Having come in as a substitute in the game against Wolves, Jesus missed the game against Villa due to a groin injury he suffered during training last Thursday. While the severity of his injury is still unknown, Kai Havertz is now the club’s primary striker as Eddie Nketiah is set to leave for Nottingham Forest.

Manager Arteta has revealed that we will get the results from Gabriel Jesus’ scans soon. And if the injury is long-term, the Gunners might enter the market for another striker.
“We are really happy with the squad. It’s true we had an injury with Gabriel Jesus, and we missed him. We are a little bit short, and if we can do something, then we will do it. We have to see. Probably [Sunday] or Monday we’ll have the results to see if it’s a matter of days or weeks. We don’t know [how long he will be out for],” said Arteta in a press conference.
We are mere days away from the end of the Premier League transfer window, which is set to come to a close on August 30. With just five days left, it would not be easy to find and sign a suitable short-term replacement for Jesus, who might be out for a few weeks in the worst-case scenario.
Arsenal has made some big signings this transfer window. First, they made the move for goalkeeper David Raya permanent for a 27 million euro fee. Then, they signed Italy’s latest defensive sensation, Riccardo Calafiori, from Bologna. Arteta and his club are also close to finalising the signing of Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad.Check Out: Mikel Arteta On New Gabriel Jesus Replacement
