Michael Vaughan Speculates On Virat Kohli Future: Former England captain Michael Vaughan reckons that Virat Kohli has a few more years of cricket left in him, but it depends completely on him and his priorities.
Kohli has been the greatest batter of this generation, not only in India but across the global cricketing landscape. With countless runs and records under his belt, the 35-year-old will go down as one of the greatest cricketers in history.
Despite arguably being the greatest batter of the past decade, Kohli has yet to win a lot of championships as a cricketer. While he did win the 2011 World Cup with India and the 2013 Champions Trophy, he has yet to win any ICC tournament in the past 10 years.
With several semi-final and final appearances, one would assume that a player like Kohli would have won more. But that is not the case.
In the past eight months, Kohli lost the 2023 ODI World Cup final with India and has now lost another chance at winning the IPL trophy with Royal Challengers Bengaluru after their loss to the Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator of IPL 2024.
Despite a legacy of not winning trophies with some of the best teams in the world, Virat Kohli tends to shine on the biggest stage. Not only was he the highest run scorer in the 2023 World Cup, but he was also the highest run scorer in the 2024 IPL.
Not only that, but at such an advanced age (in sports), Virat is lightning-quick on the field and has boundless stamina.
Michael Vaughan Speculates On Virat Kohli Future
In a recent appearance with Cricbuzz, Michael Vaughan suggested that Virat Kohli is still one of the greatest cricketers in the world and can still play for some time. The only thing that can stop Kohli’s career now is if he decides to leave the sport for his family.
“A brilliant season (IPL 2024). You talk about retirement with Virat Kohli; I look at this in a way that he can play for long. He is that fit. Unless his mind goes, he’s obviously got a young family now. In three years’ time, everything changes, and he just wants to spend quiet time; I completely get that,” said Vaughan.
Virat Kohli scored a whopping 741 runs in the IPL this season, with an average of 61 and a strike rate of 154. Despite RCB having been eliminated from the competition, Virat Kohli will most likely end the season with the Orange Cap.
