Michael Vaughan Praises Abhishek Sharma: Former England captain Michael Vaughan has sung praises of Sunriusers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma and wants the young all-rounder to play for India soon.
Abhishek has had a spectacular IPL in 2024. He has scored 467 runs in 13 games this season with an average of 38.92 and a strike rate of almost 210. He, along with Travis Head, has revolutionized how batters are meant to play in the league.
His form is a major reason behind Sunrisers Hyderabad’s second-place finish in the league table. Not only that, but he has played a huge role in making SRH the most exciting team this season.

Not only that, but Sharma also broke the record for most sixes in an IPL season with 41. This record was earlier held by Virat Kohli, who hit 31 maximums in the legendary 2016 season, where he scored over double the runs Abhishek did this season.
Michael Vaughan Praises Abhishek Sharma
Michael Vaughan, who has been a commentator and an analyst for IPL 2024, claimed that Abhishek Sharma’s batting reminds him of left-handed legends like Yuvraj Singh and Brian Lara.
“He could play for India across formats, as he has got a good technique. Abhishek has got Brian Lara-esque and Yuvraj Singh-type swing of the willow,” Vaughan told Cricbuzz.
During the same conversation, Vaughan also reckoned that Sharma should be given an opportunity to play for the national team, just like Yashasvi Jaiswal was promoted to team India a couple of years ago on the basis of his IPL performances, saying,
“Yashasvi Jaiswal was given a chance to play for the Indian team after his performances in IPL. He has been a success story in Test cricket. Abhishek could do the same. Yashasvi has been a wonder story. He came to international cricket and started dominating it from the start. It looked like he was playing cricket for 15 years. Abhishek is not far off.”
Sunrisers Hyderabad finished second in the IPL 2024 league table, pipping the Rajasthan Royals on the last day. They will now face the Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 1 on May 21 in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
