Michael Atherton says Jadeja is the 2nd best: Michael Atherton says all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is the best player India has currently after Virat Kohli. He wants England to capitalize on the ‘golden opportunity’ in front of them as they are out of the initial matches due to injuries and personal reasons.
Michael Atherton says Jadeja is the 2nd best:
In an article in the Times, Michael Atherton expressed confidence in England’s prospects of clinching a Test series victory on Indian soil after 12 years. This optimism stems from England’s remarkable 28-run triumph in the first Test at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.
Reflecting on the unexpected outcome, Atherton emphasized that England, having trailed in the first innings, demonstrated resilience to secure a memorable win. With India missing key players KL Rahul and Jadeja in the second game, Atherton sees an opportunity for England to capitalize and secure a victory in the series.
“It was an unbelievable outcome in the first Test for England, as they were behind on the basis of the first innings. Meanwhile, India is without KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja for the second game. England have a chance to win the second Test,” Atherton wrote.
Atherton also feels that Jadeja is the second-most important player India have and the host will absolutely miss him in the series. According to him, India is yet to find a replacement for the all-rounder.
“India are 0-1 down and will miss Ravindra Jadeja, who is the second most important player after Virat Kohli. His batting and bowling add value to Team India’s overall combination. Washington Sundar, Saurabh Kumar, and Kuldeep Yadav can’t replace Jadeja. All the problems lie with the Rohit Sharma-led team, Atherton added.”
As the first inning of the 2nd Test ends today, India have thrown out England at 253, which is 172 runs less than India’s first Innings score.
