MI fans troll Hardik Pandya: The new Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya got slammed and trolled mercilessly by the fans for lavishing praise on MS Dhoni following his team’s 20-run loss against Chennai Super Kings in their IPL 2024 encounter.
On Sunday night, MI and CSK played a cracking game at the Wankhede Stadium in which the visitors emerged victorious by 20 runs.
The difference in the end proved to be Dhoni’s fireworks in CSK’s last over, which was bowled by Hardik. Walking out to bat with four balls left in CSK’s innings, MS Dhoni smashed Pandya for three sixes in three balls before collecting two runs on the last ball.
Hardik also failed with the bat, managing only 2 runs in 6 balls; his innings sucked some of the momentum out of Mumbai’s chase in the middle overs when Rohit Sharma, who would eventually make a century that would go in vain, also lost his timing for a period of four overs.
After the match, in the post-match presentation ceremony, Hardik Pandya said,
“CSK bowled really well, there is a man behind the stumps (MS Dhoni) telling (the bowlers) what to do”.

This remark from Pandya irked the fans, in particular the Mumbai Indians fans, who blasted their captain, who had underperformed in the game. This was Mumbai’s fourth loss of the season in six matches, and their road to the playoffs had gotten a lot tougher.

Former MI captain Rohit Sharma scored an impressive century: 105* runs in 63 balls with the help of 11 fours and 5 sixes. However, there was a slowdown of Rohit between overs 14 to 18, where he moved from 73* (42) to 90* (59), scoring 17 runs in 17 balls.
Although Rohit did have the intent, he couldn’t connect his shots well as the CSK pacers bowled superbly. This, coupled with Hardik’s knock of 2 (6), was the momentum-shifting phase in MI’s chase when CSK got on top and didn’t let their grip loose, eventually winning by 20 runs.
Sri Lanka’s Matheesha Pathirana made the biggest impact with the ball in the match. Pathirana recorded sensational bowling figures of 4/28, his wickets being Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Romario Shepherd. The Sri Lankan was adjudged the Player of the Match for his match-winning bowling effort.
