MI Defeats DC IN WPL 2025 Final By 8 Runs: The Mumbai Indians defeated the Delhi Capitals in the final of the 2025 Women’s Premier League to win their second league title in three years. This result also brought heartbreak for the Capitals, who lost their third final in a row.
The WPL 2025 final came just a week before the start of IPL 2025. The match saw two of the best-performing teams in the league face one another. Delhi, with five wins, three losses, and 10 points in eight matches, finished on top of the league and automatically qualified for the final for the third year running.
Mumbai finished just behind the Capitals in second. They had the same record but a worse net run rate. Harmanpreet Kaur’s team then had to defeat the Gujarat Titans in the Eliminator to make it to their second final in league history.

The final, played in Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium, saw DC win the toss and decide to bowl first on a track with some stickiness to it. MI got off to a poor start, losing both their openers within the powerplay, which included the in-form Hayley Matthews, who was dismissed for just three and was bowled by Marizanne Kapp.
Nat Sciver-Brunt and captain Harmanpreet came to the Indians’ rescue. While Sciver-Brunt scored a near run-a-ball 30, Kaur saved her best for the last game of the season and scored 66 off 44. It was because of her that her team could even put on a respectable score.
Speaking of respectable scores, after Sciver-Brunt got out in the 15th over, Harmanpreet scored most of the runs after as the rest of the batting order collapsed. Amelia Kerr scored two, Sajeevan Sajana got out for a duck, and Amanjot Kaur scored 14 as MI barely reached a decent total, 149/7, at the end of their 20.
In what should have been an easy run chase for the Delhi Capitals, captain Meg Lanning departed for four at the end of the second over. Explosive opener Shafali Verma soon followed at the end of the third over as both openers got out for the score of 17.

Jess Jonassen was not long for the crease, as she just scored 13 runs. Annabel Sutherland also had an off night, scoring just two runs. By the time she was dismissed, Delhi’s score was 44/4 in eight overs.
All-rounder Marizanne Kapp, along with Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues, tried stabilising the innings, but when Rodrigues got out for 30 in 21 in the 11th over, it seemed that the match had ended for the Capitals.
But Kapp did not believe that, as she, along with Niki Pandey, kept their team’s hopes alive, scoring 40 and 25, respectively. But Kapp’s departure in the 18th over marked the end of Delhi Capitals’ chances of winning this game. At the end of their 20 overs, they fell short of the target by nine runs. The Mumbai Indians won the WPL 2025 final by eight wickets.
For her splendid inning and her role in taking her side to a decent total, MI captain Harmanpreet Kaur was named the Player of the Match. Nat Sciver-Brunt was named the Player of the Tournament for her brilliant all-round performance. Sciver-Brunt also scored 523 runs in 10 matches, which was the most in this competition, as she won the Purple Cap. Finally, MI star all-rounders Amelia Kerr and Hayley Matthews jointly had the most wickets in the 2025 Women’s Premier League with 18 apiece.
