Matthew Short Personal Life
Matthew Short grew up in Ballarat and was known early for his batting style, which even reminded people of Greg Chappell. But his career didn’t take off quickly. In his early years, his performances were average, and he had to work hard to improve.
A big turning point came around 2020. During that time, he started experimenting with baseball-style training. He used baseball bats, softballs, and different swing techniques to improve his power hitting. This helped him become a much stronger T20 batter later on.
In his personal life, family plays an important role. He is married to Madi, who is a former Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer. Watching her training habits actually pushed him to work harder on his own fitness.
The couple also have a son named Austin, which adds another important part to his life outside cricket.
Matthew Short Contract
Matthew Short signed a new contract in The Hundred 2026 with Welsh Fire.
He was picked at the auction for £75,000 (around ₹1.4 crore / AU$141,000). He was the only Australian player bought in that auction, which made his signing stand out.
This came at a time when Short had just been left out of Australia’s T20 World Cup squad, so this deal was a good opportunity for him to stay active in franchise cricket.
He also joins a group of other Australian players already signed before the auction, including Mitchell Marsh, Adam Zampa, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, and Nathan Ellis.
The contract is specifically for the 2026 season of The Hundred, which starts in July and runs for about four weeks.
