Matt Henry Replaces David Willey For LSG: Lucknow Super Giants have announced that New Zealand pacer Matt Henry will be replacing English all-rounder David Willey in the squad for the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League.
Willey, who initially pulled out of the first few matches of the tournament, has now pulled out completely due to personal reasons. Henry, who went unsold at the auction, will now replace the Englishman as the side’s second overseas pace option.
Matt Henry Replaces David Willey For LSG
Henry does not have much experience playing in the IPL. He played two matches for the Punjab Kings back in 2017. While he was part of the Chennai Super Kings for a couple of seasons, he did not play a match for the Men in Yellow.
However, Henry has been excellent for the New Zealand national team. While he has a decent record in white ball cricket, having played 17 T20Is and 82 ODIs and took a combined 161 wickets, he truly shines in the longest format of the game and is used as a workhorse pacer in Tests. He has taken 95 wickets in 25 matches for the Black Caps with the red ball.

Matt Henry will now become a backup overseason pace bowling option behind Afghani sensation Naveen Ul Haq.
LSG has played only one match in IPL 2024 so far, which was a loss against the Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. In that match, the team’s only overseason pacer Naveen Ul Haq took two wickets. Despite his performance, it was the Royals who emerged victorious by 20 runs.
David Willey is not the only English pacer to pull out of the tournament for LSG, as Mark Wood too is missing IPL 2024 as the English Cricket Board withdrew him from the competition on the grounds of workload management.
Lucknow Super Giants will be looking for their first win in IPL 2024 when they take on the Punjab Kings in Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium tonight.
