South Africa Cricket Team captain Aiden Markram was fuming after getting dismissed by Varun Chakravarthy in the third South Africa vs India T20I. This was his second dismissal at the hands of the mystery spinner in a row.
The Proteas took on the Indian Cricket Team in the third of four T20Is in the ongoing series. The match was being played at the SuperSport Park (aka the Centurion Park) in Centurion and saw the home team win the toss and decide to bowl first for the third match in a row.
India stumbled at the start, as the centurion from the first match of the series, Sanju Samson, got dismissed for a duck for the second match in a row. But then came a blistering partnership between Abhishek Sharma and Tilank Varma. In the next 8-or-so overs, the two notched up a 107-run partnership before Sharma was dismissed.
Skipper Suryakumar Yadav went out for just 1, Hardik Pandya scored a slow 16-ball 18, and Rinku Singh continued his disappointing tun as Tilak continued to keep up the pace of the inning from one end.
Tilak Varma would go on to score a ton, an unbeaten 107 off 56 to be exact. He would be supported by a quickfire 15 ogg 6 towards the end by debuting Ramandeep Singh. In the end, India put up a solid total of 219/6 in 20 overs.
In response, South Africa got off to a measured start, scoring at the pace of nine rpo in the powerplay. Ryan Rickelton was bowled in the third over by Arshdeep Singh, and Reeza Hendricks was out in the final over of the powerplay. And like that, skipper Markram and Tristan Stubbs were on the field.
Stubbs got out after a run-a-ball 12. But with the Proteas falling behind the run rate, the captain decided to pick the pace up and score a few boundaries. In the 10th over of the inning, which was also Varun Chakravarthy’s third over, Markram hit the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner for two sixes.

But, on the final ball of the over, Varun bowled it short and spun it away from the batter. Markram hit the ball from the bottom of his bat and struck it straight into the hands of Ramandeep Singh at deep mid-wicket. Markram was out for 29 off 18, and Chakravarthy got his second wicket on the night.
After the dismissal, Markram lost his cool and let a few choice words fly. This was surprising because the South African captain is otherwise known for his calm demeanor.
Watch: Aiden Markram Loses His Cool
This has not been the best series for Aiden Markram so far. In the first match of the series, he opened the batting and got out after scoring just eight runs. While in the second, he was bowled by Varun Chakravarthy for just three runs. The third match was the second time in a row he got out to the 33-year-old mystery spinner.
A fantastic inning of 54 off 17 by Marco Jansen towards the end brought South Africa back into the game. But the home side went on to lose by 11 runs after Jansen got out. South Africa’s final score was 208/7.
India is now 2-1 ahead in the series. For them, the next and final game at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on November 15 could be the series winner. While for the South African Cricket Team, it could bring them back in this series.
