Marcus Rashfrod to Barcelona: FC Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is reportedly looking to sign Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford after the club failed to secure the signature of Nico Williams.
Barcelona is looking for a change in their attacking line after a trophyless 2023/24 season. After the previous season ended, the club hired former Bayern Munich and Germany manager Hansi Flick to lead the team to another golden age.
Ever since Flick has taken charge of the Spanish giants, he has stressed the importance of signing a new left-winger for his system. For the longest time, it seemed that the club had the perfect winger in mind in Nico Williams.

The Athletic Bilbao attacker was on song last season. He then put a ribbon on a solid season with a brilliant campaign in the 2024 UEFA Euros. As Spain won the tournament and won all their matches in it, Williams played a massive role in their success, scoring two goals in the competition, including one in the final.
As Barca’s pursuit of the 22-year-old grew more intense, it was assumed by most, including Barcelona themselves, that the transfer was a done deal. But it seems that Athletic Bilbao was not ready to lose their star winger this summer, resulting in the transfer not taking place.
With the Nico Williams signing falling through, the Blaugrana are looking for alternatives, one of them possibly being Marcus Rashford. The English attacker started his 10th season with the Red Devils as United took on and defeated Fulham in their Premier League opener last week at Old Trafford.

Rashford has had a very topsy-turvy decade at Manchester United. Despite being considered a modern great at the club, he has had seasons that have varied wildly in quality of output. In some seasons he scores over 20 goals, while in others, he is dismal. In the 2023/24 season, he just scored eight goals in 43 games. The poor season resulted in England manager Gareth Southgate not picking him in the squad for the 2024 Euros despite being a national team regular.
Despite a poor season, the 26-year-old is still, in terms of age, in the prime of his career and might be in a perfect place for a big move. After a poor season, his market price might be low, but he is still capable of big performances.
That might be the reason behind Hansi Flick requesting his club to sign the English winger, as reported by GOL Sport.
But Rashford is not the only winger on Flick and FC Barcelona’s radar, as Bayern Munich and France attacker Kingsley Coman is in their sights as well.
With that being said, the Catalan club is yet to submit a bid for Marcus Rashford (or Coman), who is still a big part of Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag’s plans. He will likely feature in United’s upcoming game against Brighton, to be played on Saturday, August 24. That will be followed by United’s first big game of the season, against Liverpool on Sunday, September 1.
