Manchester United’s latest transfer target, Manuel Ugarte, has landed in Manchester to undergo his medical tests and complete his move to the English club.

The Erik Ten Hag-managed side has been quite busy this transfer window. They have made some big signings in this summer transfer window. They bought right-back Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich and striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna. They have also bought two fantastic center-backs—star defender Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern and 18-year-old sensation Leny Yoro from Lille.
Ugarte is the newest target of the former Premier League champions. The Uruguayan defensive midfielder might be the spark of possession football that United has needed for some time, and the club believed Casemiro might bring when they signed the Brazilian last season.
Bought by PSG from the Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon, the 23-year-old was one of the better players in the squad of the French champions after they lost several big names and started a rebuild.
Representing Uruguay in the 2024 Copa America, Ugarte was arguably his nation’s best player, as Le Celeste made a run to the semi-finals as probably the best team in the competition. Showing strong presence, leadership, and initiative, the midfielder was a lively presence on the field for his nation, something that the Red Devils needed.

After United reached a deal with PSG and Ugarte’s camp, the player has now landed in England for his medical exam, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. He will likely soon join the squad, possibly before their next game.
Signing Manuel Ugarte was crucial for the Manchester-based club, as they sold Scott McTominay to Napoli and will likely get rid of Jadon Sancho before the transfer window ends in a couple of days.
This is set to be the first transfer window in some time where Manchester United has not signed a single player over 30 years of age yet. Couple that with the club successfully going after and signing their targets means that the recent change in management is bringing some positivity back to the side after their worst Premier League finish last season.
But positive and multiple signings are yet to bear fruit for the side on the pitch. The defending FA Cup champions kicked off the 2024-25 Premier League season with a 1-0 win over Fulham as debutant Zirkzee scored in the 18th minute. Then, against Brighton, after getting two goals disallowed by VAR, United lost 2-1.
