Manu Bhaker Misses Out On Third Olympic Medal: Indian shooter Manu Bhaker missed out on her third medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics as she finished fourth in the women’s 25m air pistol event final.
The 22-year-old finished second in the qualification round yesterday, qualifying for the final in style. With eyes on creating history and becoming the first Indian to win three medals at a single Olympics, Manu took guard.
Unlike the 10m pistol event in which Manu won two bronze medals at the 2024 Olympics, the 25m pistol event does not feature decimal scoring. Instead, every shooter takes five shots each round, and if the bullet hits 10.2 or better, it is considered a hit; otherwise, it is a miss. The scoring depends on how many “hits” the shooter scored in every round.

With that, the final started, and Bhaker got off to a poor start, scoring only two hits in the first round. After three regular rounds, the elimination rounds would start.
She scored four points each in the second round to be joint second with four other shooters on 10 points. Now, the eliminations would start.
It was the USA’s Katelyn Morgan Abeln who was the first one to be eliminated. On the other hand, Manu Bhaker fell to sixth after scoring only three in the fourth round.
But perfect shooting by Bhaker meant she climbed to third after the fifth round with 18 points. This round saw Vietnam’s Trinh Thu Vinh being eliminated. Four hits in the sixth round saw the Indian overtake France’s Camille Jedrzejewski to be second behind Yang Jiin of South Korea.
Manu remained fourth after the seventh round with four hits as China’s Zhai Nan was eliminated. The difference between Bhaker and Jiin is of a single point at this moment, but so is the difference between her and Hungary’s Veronika Major at fourth.
Eighth round, and the final round before the three medallists would be decided. Fine shooting here by Mnau would confirm India’s fourth medal in shooting at the Paris Olympics. But poor shooting by the Indian meant she was tied at third with Major, as the two went into a five-shot eliminator.
Here, while Manu shot three, the Hungarian shot four, eliminating Bhaker in the worst possible spot at fourth.

Veronika Major finished third and won a bronze medal. In the end, the French and the Korean tied and went into a gold medal eliminator, where Jedrzejewski choked and shot only one, finishing second and giving the gold medal to South Korea’s Yang Jiin.
Despite missing out on a medal in what will be her last event at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Manu Bhaker has already created history by not only breaking the 12-year drought of Olympic medals in shooting for India but also becoming the first Indian to win two medals at a single Olympics.
On August 3, which is Day 8 of the 2024 Paris Olympics, Indian archers Deepika Kumari and Bhajan Kaur participated in the round of 16 of women’s individual archery, where Deepika won her game and made it to the quarterfinals.
Also for India, the men’s golf finals and the men’s and women’s skeet qualification are underway. India’s Nethra Kumanan and Vishnu Saravanan will participate in the women’s and men’s dinghy event qualification, respectively.
