Manchester United On Verge Of Sack Erik Ten Hag: Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag will reportedly be sacked by the club if they lose their next Premier League match to Aston Villa. This comes after a string of poor results for the Red Devils.
Ten Hag has been at the helm of the Manchester-based club since 2022. In the two seasons, he has won two trophies with the club, those being the EFL Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
However, his performance as a manager in the league has been subpar. While United did finish third in the PL in 2022-23, they fell out of the European places and finished a dismal eighth in 2023-24, which is the club’s worst league finish since the start of the Premier League era. The same season, they also crashed out of the group stage in the UEFA Champions League.
Ten Hag made a few big signings ahead of the 2024-25 season. These included Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee, young center-back Leny Yoro, Bayern Munich’s star center-back Matthijs de Ligt, and PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte. And while Yoro is injured and out with an injury, these other signings are playing regular minutes for the team.
With all that in place, United looked to turn their fortunes around at the start of this season. In their first PL match, they defeated Fulham 1-0. But after this, the wheels started coming off the car as they lost 2-1 to Brighton before getting thrashed by Liverpool 3-0. The team rebounded with 3-0 and 7-0 wins over Southampton and Barnsley in the league and the EFL Cup, respectively. But after those big wins, it all truly fell apart.
In the Old Trafford-based club’s last four matches since defeating Barnsley 7-0, they have drawn Crystal Palace 0-0, drawn Eredivisie side Twente 1-1 in the UEFA Europa League, were beaten by Tottenham 3-0 in the league, and then drew Porto 3-3 in Europe, with the mach-saving goal coming in that final game in the 91st minute.
In those final two games, Bruno Fernandes was red-carded twice, while one of the team’s bright sparks, Kobbie Mainoo, was injured.
Manchester United On Verge Of Sack Erik Ten Hag
With all that going wrong for the club, coupled with how poor the last season went for Manchester United, it is to no one’s surprise that reports are emerging about manager Erik Ten Hag getting fired.
Several reports have come out in the last 24 hours that the United management is planning on firing the Dutch manager, and his fate will rely on the team’s next game against Aston Villa on October 6.
One stat that reflects why some fans have been angry over Ten Hag’s management is the fact that no Premier League team has conceded 3 or more goals since the Dutchman joined United than the Red Devils with 24.
Villa are having a completely opposite season to Manchester United. Unbeaten in the month of September, they recently registered their biggest win in the club’s recent history, defeating Bayern Munich 1-0 in the UCL. Suffice it to say, they will go into their match against United as the favourites.
