Manchester United Close In On Manuel Ugarte: Premier League side Manchester United are closing in on signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte on what could either be a permanent transfer or a loan deal.
United have been busy this transfer window, bringing in solid role players in order to shake up the first-team squad. The signings this summer so far include striker Joshua Zirkzee of Bologna, 18-year-old defender Leny Yoro from Lille, full-back Noussair Mazraoui, and who might be the biggest signing for the club in the past few years, star-defender Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich.
This strengthening of the squad seems natural, seeing as the Red Devils had their worst league outing last season. In the 2023/24 season, the team finished a lowly eighth, their worst finish in the PL era. And while they did win the FA Cup, the season as a whole was a massive disappointment.
Man United’s midfield might be losing a few big pieces, as Scott McTominay and Cristian Eriksen are linked with a transfer away.

With all that in mind, it is not a surprise that the former Premier League champions are looking for a massive midfielder signing. And the answer to that search might be Uruguayan Manuel Ugarte.
The 23-year-old was signed by PSG from Sporting Lisbon on a five-year contract last season. He made 37 appearances for the club, scoring three goals and looking great. He also featured for Uruguay in the 2024 Copa America. As La Celeste looked like one of the best teams in the competition on their run to the semi-final, Ugarte looked like one of the team’s best players.
Manuel has been a transfer target for United manager Erik Ten Hag since the transfer window started. With Ugarte being young and in fine form, this will be another big-money signing for a club looking for a rebuild, considering the transfer goes through.
And the deal might be close to being done. According to Sky Sports transfer journalist Florian Plettenberg, United are close to reaching an agreement with PAG regarding Manuel Ugarte’s transfer. While the nature of the deal is not confirmed, it is understood that personal terms with the player and his party have been reached.
The reported cost of the transfer is around 51 million euros, which will be the Manchester-based club’s second largest signing this summer after Leny Yoro.
Manchester United kicked off the season with a win against Fulham in their opening Premier League game 1-0 at Old Trafford, with Zirkzee scoring on his debut. The team will face Brighton in their next game on Saturday, August 24.
