Manchester United Champions League Win: Manchester United finally put some points on the table in their Champions League group after defeating Copenhagen in a very close match on Matchday 3 on October 24. The match, played at Old Trafford, ended 1-0 as Harry Maguire put his name on the scoresheet in the 72nd minute.
The victory came on a very emotional day for Manchester United and their fans worldwide, as club and England legend Sir Bobby Charlton passed away very recently. Before the match, a congregation came together in remembrance of Sir Charlton, who won countless championships with United from the 1950s to the 70s and was also part of England’s 1966 World Cup-winning squad.
In the shadow of the great figures passing emotions definitely ran high as United looked to score some point in Group A of the Champions League. Before this match, they had lost their matches to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.

Manchester United Champions League Win
The match against Copenhagen saw the much-maligned center-back Harry Maguire, who is on somewhat of a career resurgence in the last couple of matches, continue his decent form by scoring a solid header off of an assist by Christian Erikson.
But the highlight of the match was Andre Onana’s penalty save in injury time. Onana, who has been heavily criticized for drastic errors he has made since signing for United in the summer, became the hero of Old Trafford when he saved a penalty by Jordan Larson at the 90+5 minute mark
The 2023-24 season has definitely been one to forget till this point for The Reds. Currently eighth on the Premier League table, the Manchester-based club had two consecutive losses in the Champions League before yesterday. Suffice it to say, manager Eric Ten Hag’s job was on the line coming into October. However, this month has lit a spark of hope in the club and the manager.
Before this win over Copenhagen, United had won two Premier League matches on the trot against Brentford and Sheffield United. The win against the Dutch side also ensured that they would live to fight another day in their Champions League group. United, in third place, is just a point behind Galatasaray, who lost their most recent match to Bayern Munich.
Manchester United’s road ahead is not an easy one, as they will take on city rivals and defending champions Manchester City in the Premier League on October 29. They would then take on a solid NEwcastle United and a decent Fulham, before facing Copenhagen once against in the Champions League, this time in Copenhagen’s Telia Parken Stadium.
