M Siddharth on dismissing Virat Kohli: Lucknow Super Giants spinner Manimaran Siddharth completed his “dream” of taking the wicket of RCB legend Virat Kohli on Tuesday evening at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, which contributed to LSG’s 28-run victory. This was Siddharth’s first IPL wicket, and it was the “biggest wicket” he could have ever taken.
In the chase of 182, Virat Kohli, the Orange Cap holder, got going with two fours and a six. He hit Siddharth for a boundary on the first ball of the left-arm spinner’s second over. On the next ball, Kohli went after the spinner again, but this time, Siddharth had slowed down his pace a bit, and with the ball turning a little off the pitch, Kohli top-edged to backward point. Siddharth let out a huge roar as the Chinnaswamy went silent.
M Siddharth on dismissing Virat Kohli:
Speaking after the match, M Siddharth talked of his dream wicket. The 25-year-old Tamil Nadu spinner said,
“I had always dreamed of taking his wicket. You can ask anyone. It’s the biggest wicket you can ever take. I’m really happy. I just wanted to keep it simple. I backed my strengths and I knew if I could hit the correct lengths, I could do well for the team.”
Kohli’s dismissal in the fifth over of RCB’s innings triggered their downfall as Faf du Plessis got run out before Mayank Yadav tore into RCB’s middle-order with 3/14. Mayank, who clocked 156.7 KPH on the speed gun, bagged his second consecutive Man of the Match award in what were his first two IPL games.
Siddharth spoke about Mayank’s extreme pace, having faced him in the nets.
He said,
“I’ve played him in the nets actually. He’s really quick and I’m very happy to see him do well. All the players in the Lucknow team and support staff know what he has, and he’s delivering it at the right time and I’m really happy for him.”
Lucknow’s next match is at home against Shubman Gill’s high-flying Gujarat Titans on Sunday. M Siddharth will be key for KL Rahul with the new ball against the likes of Gill and Saha.
